Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender Review

In this Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender Review, I tell you why I recommend it.

Trading my high-powered 2-quart Ninja combination soup maker/juicer, and my smaller but powerful Ninja juicer for the small Hamilton Beach Single Serve blender might seem like a crazy idea. In fact, there was a time when I totally would have agreed with you.

However, about 3 years ago my husband and I started travelling, long-term, and you probably guessed it – the soup maker and juicer had to go with us.

Overweight Luggage

Since our trips were five months or longer, we found we were packing more and more stuff and our luggage was always overweight at the airport.

It got so bad at one point that my husband threatened to throw out the Ninja Soup maker when we were told, once again, that our luggage was overweight. Well, there was no way that was happening so we had to rearrange everything and ended up putting it in his big computer bag.

The lady who was weighing the luggage asked how we made did and I jokingly told her that unless she wanted a divorce on her hands, it better be ok. She replied, “Oh no, we can’t let that happen.” Miraculously, she let us through although I am convinced she took me seriously. I do love West Jet!

So you see we had an issue on our hands. We knew we had to do something soon, so we then started leaving the soup maker behind and took the smaller juicer but the same thing happened. Our suitcases just couldn’t handle that much extra weight.

Neither one of us wanted to give up on a healthy breakfast.

Shopping For a New Juicer

It was literally time for our next trip and we still hadn’t picked out a juicer. We weren’t sure we could order one online in time so off we went to Walmart. Although we did end up buying there, we searched a few other places just to compare prices.

The little Hamilton Beach Blender (notice I said NOT juicer) stood out, mostly due to its being light in weight (which would be great for travelling and the price (which suited our travelling budget). At that point, we didn’t know much about it but those two requirements fit what we were looking for so we forgot about looking for a juicer.  I have to tell you this funny little story though before I tell you why I love this amazing thing.

While we were still trying to decide if we wanted to buy it or not, we thought we would confirm the price. The store clerk assured us that the price was $13.99 but when he went to ring it in, the price showed at $18.99 (still an excellent price) but my husband is a stickler for those kinds of things. So he argued that online it was $13.99 and he said, “You told us it was $13.99 and so we chose it based on that price. Where is your supervisor.” It turns out that the price was ONLY for online purchases and not in-store but rather than lose the sale, long story short, the supervisor gave in without any arguments and we got it at $13.99 (a definite st

Would I recommend it?

Definitely. I would give this little blender a BIG 5 Stars! For the money, you can’t beat it!

Why I Love It

In spite of the cons mentioned, in the long run, for me, they don’t make much difference. Washing the container isn’t a chore. I just use soapy water and a brush to get around the blades (which are raised a bit so this helps) and both the container and lid are dishwasher-safe.

I don’t use ice cubes a lot and as for blending coffee, I tried this in a much larger, more expensive blender and it still spewed out at the top. Maybe you can’t have everything…but almost!

This blender is perfect, especially for the traveller, and I love it! I especially love being able to make our smoothies, quickly rinse out the container (to wash later) and head out for the day. If we had our car here, we would probably take it with us. Convenient, quick and easy! In fact, it is working so well, I am contemplating buying a second one when we get back home – it’s that sharing thing!

This would also make an excellent gift for your college and university students – something they might not think of getting themselves but would most likely end up using!

Also, the very best thing – it keeps hubby happy – no unexpected excessive weight in our luggage which makes for smooth flying! We also house sit, a lot, so we take it with us, just in case the homeowner doesn’t have a blender or juicer. It has come in handy more than once!

Have you tried this blender? What do you think about it? Was it worth the money?

I love to travel and my biggest regret is that I waited so long to do it, thinking I just couldn’t afford it. I have had some crazy fun, met some amazing people, and had some scary moments such as getting locked in a shower at a campsite. For our trip to Mexico, we were able to save money by house sitting, which was something completely new to us. 1. Hi there, this seems to be a great blender and at a grea price! I never considered getting one that i could pack into our bag and take with us when we go away so thanks for this insight. I dont think it matters that it has a short electric cord and small ice is very easy obstacle to get around too!

    • Hi Dianne.

We would be lost without something to make our smoothies when we are away travellling. This just seemed to be the best option and so far I am enjoying it. I think the cord is probably longer than I think, lol. Perception! Anyway, if you get one, I hope you love it as much as I do mine!

  2. I have been wondering what to buy for my gym-junkie friend and this is the perfect idea! She loves making smoothies (because she is always on the run) but hates washing dishes so I am glad it is dishwasher safe – she will definitely love it! Thanks for the recommendation!

    • Hi Laris.

I can relate to your gym-junkie friend and dishes. Where we are vacationing, I don’t have access to a dishwasher but still, it is not a big chore to wash this little blender, especially if you give it a good rinse right after you use it, if possible. I am sure your friend will like it.

  3. Good afternoon Mary An,

I really enjoyed reading your story and kind of saw myself reflected in it. I also know how it feels when that extra kg or 2 are denied at check in. Traveling with a car is easier but then there is the danger of adding a box or 2 with all the stuff you usually take at home. When Michael came to Spain in 2016 he brought his Vitamix along. Now that one does not fit in a suitcase and even in a car it is too bulky.

Great you found this Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender, it sounds like a good little machine. The only thing that worries me slightly is that one cannot remove the blades. As you have given this blender 5 star rating I suppose this detail is not too serious an issue. Thank you for this information, I will put it on my Christmas wishlist.

    • Hi Taetske. Thanks for stopping by.

You should see my car. When we put it in storage, it is usually full of stuff that we don’t take on the plane such as our coffee maker. We are just to the point where we are tired of lugging stuff with us and that extra weight just is not worth it at the airport. That’s part of the reason why I like the little blender. Easier to lug around and still provides those healthy smoothies to start the day.

I find it esay to clean even without a dishwasher. I hope if you end up getting one that you will enjoy it as well :).
